The Damariscotta Police Department is investigating 11 motor vehicle burglaries between the hours of 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6 and 2 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 7.
The burglaries were on Bristol Road, Church Street, Elm Street, High Street, and Lewis Point Road.
The burglar or burglars entered unlocked cars and stole iPods, GPS units, a $400 pair of prescription sunglasses, checks, a coin purse, and loose change. “There was a garage that was entered as well, to get into a vehicle,” Damariscotta Police Chief Ron Young said.
“The garage door was left unlocked as well,” Young said. “They are all crimes of convenience.”
“We were able to collect some evidence from some of the scenes,” Young said.
The Damariscotta Police Department asks anyone with information about the burglaries to call Officer Jim Dotson at 563-1909.
The department encourages all residents to secure their vehicles.
“Make sure to lock your doors. Double check them,” Dotson said. “It’s too bad it has to be like that in a neighborhood like this, but there are people out there who take advantage.”
