The Damariscotta Police Department is investigating a burglary of a Church Street residence and the theft of approximately $200 in coins, as well as a Vicodin prescription, sometime between Dec. 7-10.
The coins include a collection of specialty coins: about 25 silver dollars, about 20-25 Sacagawea gold dollars, and a number of presidential dollar coins, also gold in color, Sgt. Jason Warlick said.
The department asks local businesses to take note of customers who pay with gold and silver dollar coins, take down a description of the customer and their license plate number where applicable, and call the department at 563-1909.
The department also encourages residents of Church Street and the surrounding neighborhood to lock their doors and windows and call 911 if they observe suspicious pedestrians or other unusual activity.
The burglar probably entered the home between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on one of the days in question, according to Warlick.
The December burglary follows a similar daylight burglary on Church Street Nov. 4. The burglar in the prior incident stole about $50 of change, as well as some jewelry.
“It’s the same M.O.,” Warlick said. “I think it’s connected.”
The prescription painkiller Vicodin combines hydrocodone bitartrate, an opiate, with acetaminophen, a common over-the-counter drug that relieves pain and reduces fever.
