The Damariscotta Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident near 319 Main St. at about 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, June 17.
A green or blue minivan left the roadway across from Mobius Inc. headquarters, jumped the curb, and continued along the sidewalk for 25-30 feet before striking a fence and a sign, according to Damariscotta Police Department Sgt. Jason Warlick.
The vehicle destroyed about 15-20 feet of the wooden fence on the far side of the sidewalk, as well as the sign, which bears the names of local businesses.
“The vehicle will have substantial passenger-side front-end damage, to include a broken headlight and marker light assembly,” Warlick said. A witness described the driver as a woman who appears to be in her 60s with gray, shoulder-length hair.
The department asks anyone with information about the accident to call 563-1909 or, after business hours, 563-3200 and ask to speak with a Damariscotta officer about the hit-and-run accident.
