Officer Aaron Beck of the Damariscotta Police Dept. graduated Dec. 17, 2009 from the 18-week Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
Beck, 24, of Nobleboro, worked as a self-employed contractor before joining the department as a part-time officer in September 2009 and receiving a promotion to full-time two months later.
In a Jan. 27 interview at the station, Beck said, he “always wanted to be” a police officer and wants to help people and serve his community.
“It’s also the brotherhood,” Beck said. “It’s a close-knit family. We help each other out.”
In and outside of Damariscotta, when a police officer meets another police officer, there’s an “initial trust and respect for each other,” Beck said.
Beck expressed appreciation for his “lovely wife” for her patience during the 18-week training program, which requires cadets to live in barracks from Monday through Friday. “My daughter was born [in] week three,” Beck said. “I only saw her on weekends.”
