Damariscotta Police Chief Drake would like to make citizens aware of a possible fraud on Craig’s List. A citizen reported that she received an official looking check from a company by the name of CIBC for a supposed over-payment. Please be cautious of this type of activity.
Damariscotta Police Department responded to 488 calls including motor vehicle stops, arrests, calls for service, etc. for this two week period. More than 200 of these calls were assists with emergencies due to the storm.

Feb. 23, Officer Mitkus served a protection from harassment order on a local citizen.
March 1, Officer Jennifer Mitkus took a complaint from a citizen who had been given a protection from harassment order. The complainant stated that the plaintiff was contacting her.
March 1, Officer Jennifer Mitkus took a complaint from Bath Savings Institution of a counterfeit twenty dollar bill that they received.
March 2, Officer Jennifer Mitkus notified a citizen of a bounced check they had written at Poole Brother’s Lumber. The citizen took care of the check.
March 6, Officer Richard Alexander responded to a report of a fire on Alison Lane in the woods. Fire Chief Neil Genthner and Officer Alexander located the subject who had started the fire and informed him that he may be summonsed for burning without a permit.
March 8, Officer Adam Lewis took a complaint from a citizen of a stolen canoe.
Feb. 25, Amanda M. Ferguson, 20 of Bath was arrested for burglary of a motor vehicle, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and violation of conditions of release.
Feb. 27, Janet J. Wisely, 57 of Lincolnville Center was summonsed to court for negotiating a worthless instrument.
March 2, Robyn L. Collamore, 35 of Damariscotta was summonsed to court for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.
March 2, Joseph Cappeletti, 59 of Damariscotta was summonsed for operating a motor vehicle without insurance (two charges) and violation of specific classes of registration plates (two charges).
March 3, Catherine R. Wooster, 36 of Waldoboro was summonsed to court for theft of lost, mislaid or misdelivered property, forgery and misuse of identification.
March 3, A juvenile was summonsed to court for theft of lost, mislaid, or misdelivered property, forgery and misuse of identification.
March 6, Margaret A. Lawton, 57 of Whitefield was summonsed for speeding 15-19 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
March 6, Barry S. Prior, 51 of New Harbor was summonsed for speeding, 20-24 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
March 6, Kevin R. Keiser, 45 of Zephyrhills, Fla. was summonsed for operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection certificate.
March 6, Roland C. Jellison, 40 of Dresden was summonsed for speeding, 15-19 miles per hour over the posted speed limit and for failure to produce evidence of insurance.
March 6, Wayne A. Weaver, 60 of Exton, Penn. was summonsed for speeding, 15-19 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
March 6, Robert H. Kennedy, 62 of Rockport was summonsed for speeding, 15-19 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
March 6, Michael B. Benner, 34 of Thomaston was summonsed for speeding, 15-19 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
March 7, Robert A. Sproul, 69 of Pemaquid was summonsed for operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection certificate.
March 8, Officer Adam Lewis responded to a two vehicle accident at Rising Tide Co-op Market involving Leon P. Garnett, 63 of Newcastle and Lucas R. Benner, 22 of Friendship. Garnett was backing out of a parking space in his 2007 Chevrolet. He failed to see Benner pulling into a parking space in his 2003 Ford and struck the right side of Benner’s vehicle with his left front tire. There was no damage to Garnett’s vehicle and approximately $2500 damage to Mr. Benner’s vehicle.
