After submitting photos to the #LCNme365 contest since its inception, Damariscotta resident Jim Cosgrove won the contest for the month of August.
Cosgrove, who recently wrapped a three-year term as a Damariscotta selectman, takes walks through town daily with his “trusty iPhone.” The morning of July 16, he snapped a photo in Riverside Park that would become this month’s winner.
“I always take a bunch of photos of the park because I’ve been so pleased about the work the volunteers have done and the way it’s come out,” Cosgrove said. “This (photo) just caught my eye with the juxtaposition between the flowers and the fog in the background.”
Cosgrove, a Realtor with Portland-based Keller Williams Realty, said he enjoys looking at the other photos submitted to the contest using #LCNme365 on Instagram, and that he “never really expected to win” the contest.
“I’m honored, truly. There are so many great professional photographers in the area and there are people like me with our iPhones, and this (contest) really shows just how much talent there is here,” Cosgrove said.
In addition to having his photo featured on the front page of The Lincoln County News, Cosgrove will receive a $50 gift certificate from August’s contest sponsor, Long Winter Soap Co., of Waldoboro.
As the eighth monthly winner, Cosgrove cannot win another weekly or monthly contest in 2017, but he can still submit photos for inclusion in the weekly slideshow of entries at lcnme.com.
Cosgrove’s photo will compete against the other 11 monthly winners at the end of the year as voters select the winner for 2017.
Submissions are now being accepted for the September #LCNme365 contest. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate from Renys, the month’s sponsor.
