The Damariscotta selectmen unanimously approved a liquor license application from the incoming owners of the Maine Coast Book Shop and Cafe at its meeting Nov. 18.
Float LLC, doing business as the Maine Coast Book Shop and Cafe, had submitted the application for a restaurant license with a privilege to serve wine and beer. Jeff Curtis and Maria Boord, of Boothbay Harbor, submitted the application earlier in November.
Curtis is in the process of purchasing the Maine Coast Book Shop and Cafe. Boord, his life partner, will run the cafe.
During a brief public hearing, Curtis said the cafe wished to obtain the license in order to serve wine and beer during author receptions, events that have previously been catered. Curtis said there are currently no plans to sell wine and beer during regular business hours.
“Right now we close at 5, and I don’t see us serving a lot of wine before that,” Curtis said.
One of the plans Curtis was considering would be to extend the cafe’s hours into the evening to coincide with shows at the Lincoln Theater.
“It would give the people a place to meet and have a drink before the show,” Curtis said.
With no further comments, the selectmen closed the hearing. The application was approved with a vote of 5-0.
