Damariscotta plans to sign a contract with Eaton Peabody, a general practice law firm with offices in four Maine cities, to bring in Don Gerrish as interim town manager, outgoing Damariscotta Town Manager Greg Zinser said.
Gerrish, of Brunswick, would bring decades of experience as a city and town manager, including a combined 29 years as the top bureaucrat in Brunswick and Gorham, respectively.
In 2010, Gerrish served for about six months as Wiscasset’s interim town manager.
According to a press release on Eaton Peabody’s website, Gerrish’s extensive resume includes a stint as the president of The International City/County Manager’s Association.
“[Gerrish] traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe meeting managers and discussing issues facing their communities,” according to the press release.
Gerrish, in a brief, Aug. 19 conversation, said the firm would also assist Damariscotta in its search for Zinser’s permanent replacement.
Gerrish, currently wrapping up a stint as the part-time interim town manager of Poland, said he’d probably start after Zinser departs Thurs., Sept. 8.
“I’m looking forward to working with the selectmen and the staff down there until we bring a new manager on board,” Gerrish said.
The Damariscotta Board of Selectmen will meet with representatives of Eaton Peabody Wed., Aug. 24 at 5:15 p.m. to sign a contract, Zinser said.
