The town of Damariscotta will pay $250,000 to settle a disagreement over the cost of road work conducted by Hagar Enterprises Inc. in 2022 and 2023.
The work includes a December 2022 contract for paving and related activity on Belvedere and Egypt roads and a March 2023 contract for the reconstruction of Miles Street, according to a copy of the agreement provided by Damariscotta Town Manager Andy Dorr.
Seth Hagar, the vice president of Hagar Enterprises, did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
Disagreements arose over the cost of the work, such as a bill that came in at $30,000 more than expected for shoulder work, Dorr said at a meeting of the Damariscotta Select Board in September 2023.
Other disagreements over pricing involved the reconstruction of Miles Street, also undertaken by Hagar.
After an executive session on Wednesday, April 17, the Damariscotta Select Board voted 3-1 to accept the settlement, with Vice Chair Joshua Pinkham voting against the motion. The settlement was signed by Dorr and Hagar on April 18 and April 23, respectively.
The payment is due no later than Wednesday, May 1, according to the settlement agreement.
The next meeting of the Damariscotta Select Board will be held on Wednesday, May 1, at 5:30 p.m. in the Damariscotta municipal building. For more information, call 563-5168 or go to damariscottame.com.
