Damariscotta voters approved a series of ordinances and ordinance amendments to regulate medical and recreational marijuana businesses Tuesday, Nov. 5, clearing the way for a variety of cannabis-based businesses to open when the new rules take effect in January.
The ordinance to regulate the retail sale, cultivation, manufacturing, and testing of medical marijuana and marijuana products with a town license passed 272-90.
The ordinance governing the retail sale, cultivation, manufacturing, and testing of adult use, or recreational, marijuana passed 240-121. An amendment to that ordinance to allow the sale of edible recreational marijuana products passed 225-133.
Amendments to the land use ordinance regarding medial and recreational marijuana passed 267-96 and 245-116, respectively.
The ordinances will go into effect Jan. 6, 2020.
