On his initial appearance July 26 in Lincoln County Superior Court, Cory Hodgdon, 18, of Wiscasset was officially informed that he was charged with criminal use of explosives, a Class C offense, and a felony.
The court documents read that “on or about April 9, 2012, Cory Hodgdon did intentionally or knowingly throw or place explosives into against or upon any real or personal property.”
Hodgdon, one of the two “mailbox bombers” will appear for a status conference on Sept. 27 at 8:30 a.m. in Lincoln County Superior Court. If he fails to appear in court he will owe the state $1000, according to court documents. Additional conditions are that he have no contact with Sheryl Campbell.
According to Wiscasset Police Chief Cline, two homemade devices made with some cleaner and other liquids caused a chemical explosion, severely damaging but not completely destroying the mailboxes of Wiscasset Selectman Ed Polewarczyk and Sheryl Campbell on the evening of April 9.
