A member of Gov. Paul LePage’s cabinet will weigh in when Newcastle builds and debates its town budget next spring.
The Newcastle Board of Selectmen unanimously appointed Maine Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Patricia “Pattie” Aho to fill a vacancy on the Newcastle Finance Committee Monday, Sept. 8. Aho will serve a three-year term.
The attorney and former lobbyist joined DEP as a deputy commissioner in February 2011. LePage appointed Aho acting commissioner in June 2011 and commissioner in September 2011.
Aho was a familiar face in municipal politics before her appointment to the high-profile post. She has been the chairwoman of the Newcastle Appeals Board and a member of the town’s finance and governance committees.
Before her move to Newcastle, the Boothbay Harbor native was a selectman in her hometown and the chairwoman of the Boothbay Region Refuse Disposal District.
