Bremen’s new deputy town clerk wants to put her private-sector experience to use as a public employee. Kelly Clancy said she has worked from home in recent years and is looking forward to being among the residents of her town.
The part-time deputy town clerk position was created as a training position in anticipation of the retirement of Town Clerk Martha Varsano. Varsano plans to stay in her position until after the 2014 town meeting.
Clancy has been coming to Bremen for 25 years. Her husband’s brother had married a woman from Bremen. Clancy and her husband, a carpenter, have owned a cabin in the coastal town for 20 years.
“Now we’re building a home,” she said Dec. 18.
Clancy came to Bremen from Troy, N.Y., where she worked as a secretary and office manager for a number of attorneys and accountants.
“It’s a wonderful town,” Clancy said. “Everybody’s nice and friendly.”
“I was a legal secretary most of my life,” she said. Clancy has worked for lawyers and judges. She said she knew she has much to discover about the specifics of being a municipal clerk and is looking forward to learning about her new job and the people she will serve.
“It’s going to be interesting,” Clancy said.
Recently, Clancy has been working as a medical transcriptionist, a job she does from her home.
“A big portion of that job is research,” she said.
Clancy said she does not know many people in Bremen and is looking forward to meeting “as many people as I can” as they come to the town office. She said she was excited to face the challenges of her new position.
“I’m used to working 50-60 hours a week,” Clancy said. “I love learning. I’m learning a new trade.”
Clancy will begin her new job on Wed., Jan. 2, 2013.
