After being accused of unlawful sexual contact and transferred to Two Bridges Regional Jail in early August, disabled Damariscotta resident Walter Newton is still being held in their Mental Health Stabilization Unit pending another court hearing.
Newton was taken to jail after being accused of touching a young child at the Colby & Gale Laundromat on Aug. 7.
According to Lt. James Bailey in the Booking Department at Two Bridges, Newton was charged with unlawful sexual contact and had his initial court appearance Aug. 8.
During the hearing, Newton was ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation, and he did not enter a plea. Bailey explained Newton was set for a status conference at the courthouse Sept. 9.
According to Bailey, Newton was not able to complete both appointments for the psychological evaluation until Oct. 27. He explained they are waiting to receive and review the results of the psychological evaluation, before another court date can be set.
