Former teacher and longtime Medomak Valley High School Principal Ron Dolloff announced his resignation from the RSU/MSAD 40 School Board at the board’s meeting on July 7.
Dolloff spent decades working local schools and served on the board for the last few years. Dolloff could not be reached for comment for this article.
School Board Chairwoman Bonnie Davis Micue said he will be missed. “He was an amusing fellow to serve with,” she said. “We certainly hate to lose his valuable expertise.”
The Waldoboro Board of Selectmen will appoint a replacement to Dolloff’s seat until a new member can be elected next June.
School Board member – and longtime colleague and personal friend of Dolloff – Francis Cross said several board members are deeply disappointed to lose Dolloff. “We have great faith in him, and hoped we could get some the changes made that we both feel need to be done.”
Cross said he believes Dolloff was simply tired of fighting for change in the district. Battling state bureaucracy, tight financial times and unions may have prompted Dolloff to decide to focus his energy in places he can make more of a difference, Cross said.
“Although he was my boss, he always considered me his equal, but I never considered myself his equal,” Cross said. “I’m going to stay in contact with him, but it won’t be the same as sitting beside him on the board.”
