Dow’s Discount furniture store opened its doors April 22, and owners Dana and Lisa Dow have offered part of the building’s space to the Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame for a
nominal fee, according to Dana Dow.
The business is located in the former Science Source building on Route 1, across from Dow Furniture.
The roughly 12,700 square feet of showroom space will offer furniture for living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms, as well as mattresses, Dow said.
“Like I tell people, we brought all the Chevys over here. All the Buicks and Cadillacs … the Beautyrest, the Flexsteels, they’re staying in the original location,”
Dow said.
The company has been buying furniture by the container-load or truckload to get the best prices.
“It’s all new,” Dow said. “It’s not damaged stuff, very, very little of that, if any.”
One new full-time staff member has been added and likely one more will be added in the future, along with summer help, he said.
The store had a soft opening as the staff works the bugs out and learns the new products, Dow said. A grand opening is planned for some time in May.
The store is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Dows have offered up a portion of the building for the Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame, and Dana Dow said the hall of fame has already started to set up.
The lease on the space will be for $10 a year, with $25 a month for electricity, Dow said.
Dow said he’s always been interested in the hall of fame because of his work as a school teacher and a cross-country coach.
