The Damariscotta River Association board of trustees has issued a nearly three-year-old statement regarding the departure of former Executive Director Mark DesMeules.
The statement reads: “Damariscotta River Association thanks Executive Director Mark DesMeules for his nearly 10 years of leadership and service to the association and the communities it serves.
“As of December 2009, Mark DesMeules is embarking on a new project carrying on his community centered activities and his conservation work. DRA and Mr. DesMeules hope to continue working individually and collaboratively in support of conservation in Maine.”
DRA Trustee Bruce Lutsk e-mailed the statement to The Lincoln County News.
“Through oversight, DRA did not issue the attached announcement when Mark DesMeules ended his 10-year career as its executive director,” Lutsk wrote. “We do so now.”
Lutsk declined further comment.
Dick Clime, the president of the board, and DesMeules declined to comment for a November 2009 article in The Lincoln County News about the high-profile director’s unexplained absence.
The statement marks the first official comment from either the organization or DesMeules since their parting of ways.
