A rear-end accident on Route 127 in Dresden caused a truck to flip onto its side and sent the driver to the hospital shortly before 9:30 a.m. Thursday July 23.
Jeff Pope, 35, driving a Chevrolet pick-up truck, was following a Hammond Tractor delivery truck, operated by Steve Ford, 62, of Springvale, southbound on Middle Road (Route 127) in Dresden, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Brendan Kane said.
The truck was hauling a trailer carrying a John Deere tractor for delivery in the area and slowed to look for an address, Kane said. Due to late awareness of the slowed vehicle in front of him, Pope swerved to avoid hitting the trailer but clipped its back end.
The impact caused Pope’s vehicle to roll onto its side, Kane said. The impact from the crash could be heard from down the road, neighbors said. Several witness simultaneously reported the crash.
Dresden Fire and Rescue was first on the scene and helped direct traffic, which was reduced to a single lane around the vicinity of 1118 Middle Rd. Sagadahoc and Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies both responded to the scene, in addition to Gardiner Ambulance Service.
Pope was transported to a hospital by Gardiner Ambulance Service, but officials were unsure of which one.
The Hammond Tractor delivery truck sustained minimal damage. Pope’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
