The Dresden Fire Department rescued a Virginia woman who was pinned under an all-terrain vehicle after the vehicle flipped over in Dresden on Saturday, June 28.
Game Warden Doug Kulis said Maria Ingegneri, 27, of Springfield, Virginia, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with complaints of pelvic pain.
Neither Ingegneri nor her daughters, ages 8 and 10, were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, Kulis said. The 10-year-old girl complained of arm pain, but neither youngster was transported to the hospital.
Ingegneri said she had pushed her children off the ATV onto the soft ground in the area before the ATV flipped over, Kulis said.
“The children were fortunate,” Kulis said. “But the mother sustained a very serious hip injury.”
Maine law requires riders under 18 to wear helmets, however, as of June 30, no one has been charged. The case remains under investigation, Kulis said.
Ingegneri was driving the ATV over a small hill on a private property off Route 128 when she lost control of the ATV around 5:15 p.m., Kulis said. Ingegneri’s relatives own the property.
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, but excessive speed for the soft conditions may have been, Kulis said.
