Dresden Town Clerk Patricia Theriault took her oath of office June 23 at the Dresden town office. Outgoing Town Clerk Kim Rzasa administered the oath.
There were no candidates for the office at the June 10 election. Rzasa, the town clerk for 17 years; and Excise Tax Collector and Property Tax Collector Ann Pierce received 12 write-in votes apiece, Theriault received nine. Pierce and Rzasa declined the position.
The selectmen held a special meeting to appoint the town clerk on Monday, June 23. Theriault was also appointed hunting and fishing license agent, registration agent, and freedom of access officer.
Theriault and her husband Ronald have lived in Dresden for 27 years. During that time, they both have been very active in town activities. Ronald is the assistant fire chief for the town.
The new town clerk has been a dedicated volunteer for Dresden by serving as a Dresden Elementary School classroom volunteer, a Girl Scout leader, a first responder, a member of the fire department, co-chairman of the town recreation committee, and a volunteer at the Pownalborough Court House.
The new town clerk is also a paramedic, having worked for American Medical Response, of Scarborough, for 15 years. American Medical Response provides emergency and nonemergency medical transport service for Scarborough and the surrounding area.
Theriault completed her first day on the job Tuesday, June 24. “Trudy, Ann and Kim have been truly wonderful,” she said, referring to Pierce, Rzasa, and administrative assistant Trudy Foss.
Theriault and Ronald have two grown children and three grandchildren with a fourth grandchild that will be here for Christmas, she said.
The selectmen tabled the signing of an ambulance contract with Gardiner until their next meeting, which will take place at Pownalborough Hall at 6 p.m., Monday, June 30.
