The Dresden Board of Selectmen is considering a parking ban to address safety concerns at the corner of Gardiner Road (Route 27) and Middle Road (Route 127/197).
The ban would extend along the southbound lane of Gardiner Road within sight of the intersection, according to a draft parking ordinance.
The sightlines extend 255 feet north and 215 feet south of the intersection, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.
The primary issue arises from vehicles parking next to the road outside Ship’s Chow Hall, a restaurant on the southbound side of Gardiner Road, according to the selectmen. The vehicles restrict visibility for motorists attempting to pull out of Middle Road onto Gardiner Road.
The selectmen plan to invite the owners of Ship’s Chow Hall to their next meeting to discuss the matter. The selectmen will hold their next meeting at Pownalborough Hall at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3.
The board has the authority to enact a parking ordinance as long as it provides adequate public notice of the meeting.
