The Dresden Board of Selectmen voted at their Dec. 3 meeting to pay the $128,000 the town owes to Kennebec Intra-District Schools Regional School Unit 2 by June 30, 2013.
The selectmen voted to cash in a $102,000 certificate of deposit that matures in March 2013 as part of the payment, and to pay the remaining $26,000 out of this year’s surplus.
The $128,000 is the remainder of a fund balance Dresden owed to the RSU from when the RSU was formed in 2009. The amount owed was in question as recently as October but a meeting between officials from Dresden and the RSU on Oct. 25 confirmed the balance, according to Selectman Phil Johnston.
In other business, the selectmen voted to appoint Jean Daigle to the Bridge Academy Charitable Trust for a term of three years.
The selectmen will be talking individually to two candidates for the town’s Emergency Management Director position before the Dec. 17 selectmen’s meeting.
Johnston said the two candidates are both members of the Dresden Fire Department.
The inventory of the town’s swap shop is really low, said Selectman David Probert.
“This time of year we need items of all kinds” including books, clothes, and puzzles, Probert said.
According to the town’s website, items at the swap shop are free for all to take, but only Dresden and Richmond residents can donate. Visit www.townofdresden.com for more information on what items can be donated.
The Dresden Town Office will be closing at 2 p.m. on Dec. 24.
