The town of Dresden currently owes $128,000 of an initial fund balance of $235,552 from the formation of RSU 2, according to Dresden Selectman Phil Johnston.
Johnston said he informed the other selectmen of the balance owed at their meeting on Nov. 5.
At the Oct. 4 selectmen’s meeting, Johnston had said he believed the balance owed was somewhere around $80,000 in 2009.
RSU 2 Superintendent Virgel Hammonds quoted Johnston the figure of $128,000 at an earlier meeting between the two parties.
After an Oct. 25 meeting between Johnston, Hammonds, and others, it was determined that the balance was in fact $128,000, Johnston said.
“[The balance] was never explained clearly until this most recent time when we had our auditor present,” Johnston said. “These aren’t new numbers, it’s just how you arrive at them.”
“We made no commitment as far as when it would be paid back…and [Hammonds] said as long as we keep in touch, which is what we’re doing, everything is going to be fine,” Johnston said. “The RSU is very willing to work with us” and there’s no due date to have it paid off, he said.
“We all agreed that we would take it out of our investments at the appropriate time,” Johnston said.
Once the balance is paid off, a credit of $45,552 will be applied to Dresden’s portion of the following year’s commitment to the RSU, Johnston said.
In other business, the town will be replacing the overhead door in its winter sand shed, according to Selectman David Probert.
“It’s been repaired several times and it’s 25 years old, and we’re going to end up replacing the whole mechanism, including the door,” Probert said.
Probert said the entirety of the town’s sand and salt for the winter months has been delivered.
