A special town meeting will be held tonight, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Pownalborough Hall to discuss changes to Dresden’s Shoreland Zoning Ordinance. In 2010, voters approved amendments to the town’s 2009 adopted shoreland zoning ordinance in order to comply with Maine Dept. of Environmental Protection requirements.
The amendments contradict the shoreland zoning ordinance passed by the town in 1993. A vote will be held to determine whether or not to repeal the 1993 ordinance in order to eliminate the contradiction.
The Dresden Board of Selectmen recommends that the town repeal the 1993 ordinance.
A vote will also be held on whether or not to adopt a recall ordinance. The recall ordinance will allow for the removal of a selectman if that person has done something to hamper his or her ability to serve.
A vote on the recall ordinance was requested after the adoption of a new term of office policy changing a selectmen’s term from one year to three years. The elections will from now on be staggered.
The board of selectmen recommends the town approve the recall ordinance.
The final item on the agenda asks voters to approve a $20,000 appropriation for town building repair. The money is being drawn from the Capital Improvement Account, which currently has $56,489. The intended purpose for the account is building repair.
The board of selectmen also recommends approving the appropriation.
