Dresden voters will have a choice of third selectman this year. Incumbent Allan Moeller Sr. is being challenged by Dale W. Hinoe. This is the only contested race on the ballot.
Joseph Atkinson is the only candidate for treasurer and Ann E. Pierce is the only candidate for excise and property tax collector. There are no candidates for town clerk or for a seat on the budget review committee.
The voters will also consider the RSU 2 school budget in a referendum vote June 10. Dresden’s share of the $25.4 million budget is $1,585,854.75. RSU 2 includes the towns of Dresden, Farmingdale, Monmouth, and Richmond.
The polls will be open at Pownalborough Hall from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 10. The town meeting will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 14.
Fire department
The Dresden Board of Selectmen met June 2. The selectmen discussed the lighting issue at the fire department and replacing the lights at a cost of about $200 each. The selectmen decided to buy the lights from Gilman Electric. They also decided to plant three trees between the fire station and the private property next to the fire station.
There has been a large crack discovered on the floor of the new fire station, and a problem with the furnace also. The selectmen will contact the necessary parties to determine if there is a warranty on the work or if it will be the responsibility of the town to do the repairs.
Day of Caring
The selectmen announced the Day of Caring for Hall-Dale students to help Dresden residents with yard work and chores will be held Oct. 3 this year with a rain date of October 9.
Mowing contract
The town’s current mowing contractor is going out of business, according to the selectmen. The contract will expire at the end of June. The selectmen will request bids for the mowing.
Other business
As of May 29, the town has collected $42,846 in back taxes. On Oct. 11, 2013, the town was owed $143,443 in back taxes, the balance now stands at $119,120.
The selectmen will hold their next meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, June 16.
The town office will be closed the week of July 4.
