It remains unknown if the heart attack occurred before or after the accident according to a medical examiner’s spokesman.
According to a press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Jefferson Fire and Rescue found 62-year-old Harvey L. Perkins Jr. unresponsive behind the driver’s wheel of his truck after it went off Rt. 215 around
Attempts to revive Perkins at the scene were unsuccessful.
Following an examination, the state medical examiner’s office confirmed the preliminary findings of LCSO’s investigation, which indicated that a pre-existing medical condition was a potential contributing factor to the crash. Speed or alcohol did not appear to be involved, according to the LCSO.
Officially the medical examiner’s office determined that Perkins died of “arterial sclerotic disease.”
