A Wiscasset man is facing drug charges after police seized 88 marijuana plants in various stages of growth during a raid on his Bradford Road home Oct. 19.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, while executing a search warrant at the home of Daniel Colby Sr., 51, investigators discovered a hidden entrance that led to a large marijuana growing operation hidden inside the walls of the home. Some of the plants seized were ready for harvesting
The seized marijuana has an estimated street value of over $100,000.
Colby was arrested and charged with Possession of Schedule Z Drugs, class C and Cultivating Marijuana, class D. He was booked at the Two Bridges Regional Jail pending a later court appearance.
Members of the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office, Wiscasset Police Dept. and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency executed the search warrant at Colby’s home. The warrant was the result of a multi-agency investigation into illegal marijuana cultivation in the Midcoast Region, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
According to LCSO Lt. Michael Murphy, the growing operations took advantage of the home’s gambrel style design, using the empty space behind the walls of the second floor, over the eves.
Murphy said Colby was arrested about eight years ago for growing marijuana in the same location using the same method. This time, Murphy said, investigators knew exactly where to look.
“Sure enough, that’s where it was,” he said.
