An accident involving a dump truck and a utility pole on Academy Hill Road in Newcastle left over 100 customers without power for nearly five hours on Nov. 29, according to Central Maine Power spokesperson Gail Rice.
Christopher McKenney, 42, of Newcastle, was operating a 2012 Dodge Ram dump truck southbound on Academy Hill Road near Timber Lane when he reached for a water bottle, lost control of the truck and struck first a utility pole, and then a tree, according to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Rand Maker.
The road was closed to traffic for several hours because the pole and power lines were down, Maker said. At least three, if not four, homes were affected in particular because the service lines to the residences were pulled down, he said.
The outage affected 106 customers in total from about 8 a.m. until power was restored at around 12:50 p.m., Rice said.
McKenney was uninjured, Maker said.
