The driver of a dump truck that went off the side of Route 1 in Edgecomb on the morning of Jan. 30 was treated for his injuries and released, according to Scott Shott, a spokesman for Miles Memorial Hospital.
William Bailey, 63, of Sabattus, was headed southbound on Route 1 when the dump truck he was driving, hauling an excavator on a trailer, left the roadway and entered the ditch, according to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Dep. Kevin Dennison.
At the scene, Edgecomb Fire Chief Roy Potter said Bailey was complaining of rib pain where his seat belt crossed his chest. Bailey said he thought he had blacked out, according to Potter.
The front end of the dump truck had sustained visible damage, and the trailer’s frame appeared to have twisted during the accident.
Dennison said the accident is still under investigation because of the possibility of a medical condition.
