Jefferson voters approved the application for an Economic Development Block Grant for local business J.C. Stone at a special town vote Tuesday.
The company needs to apply for this grant through the town, as it is a Community Development Block Grant for facilities infrastructure. They are asking for $200,000 in order to expand their stone cutting facility by 100 percent. They want to buy more equipment and increase their production capacity. Equipment used includes water jet machines, polishing equipment and roto-lathes.
It could cost the town $5150 to process the grant. If the company gets the grant for the amount requested, the state might send an auditor to make sure the funds go as stipulated. It is expected the local company will reimburse the town for costs it might incur as a result of this grant.
Town residents voted 43 in favor of the grant proposal against 7 opposed.
