An Edgecomb man has been summoned for alleged participation in a high-speed pursuit ending in a rollover in Wiscasset on May 9.
Jason Gallagher, 32, of Edgecomb, turned himself in to the Wiscasset Police Department the morning of June 7 and was subsequently summoned for allegedly eluding a police officer, operating after suspension, and criminal speeding, according to Chief Troy Cline.
Gallagher allegedly accelerated away as Cline attempted to stop vehicles operated by Jason and his father, Joseph Gallagher, 57, of Edgecomb, on May 9.
At that time, Cline had been requested by another law enforcement agency to stop the vehicles because one or both of the operators may have warrants, according to a Wiscasset Police Department press release.
Cline attempted to stop both vehicles after locating them entering Wiscasset via the Donald E. Davey bridge, and Joseph allegedly attempted to disrupt Cline’s efforts as Jason drove off, Cline said previously.
The 2013 Kia Optima was allegedly operated by Jason at “high rates of speed,” and Cline lost sight of the vehicle during pursuit and came upon it overturned in the roadway in the southbound lane of Gardiner Road near the intersection of Huntoon Hill Road, according to the release.
Jason was transported to Maine Medical Center for treatment. Joseph was arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Major Ken Mason for hindering apprehension or prosecution and obstruction government administration, according to the release.
Investigation of the crash itself is still ongoing but will hopefully be completed soon, said Sgt. Jason Nein, an accident reconstructionist with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
