Two Edgecomb men sustained serious injuries when the ATV they were operating crashed on Old County Road in Edgecomb July 17.
According to a press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Christopher Dighton, 23, and Drew Wallace, 23, both received serious injuries when the 2013 Yamaha ATV they were occupying rolled over in the roadway.
Both were transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Dighton was transported by Life Flight. Wallace by ground ambulance. As of press time their conditions are unknown.
Deputies are uncertain as to what caused the ATV to roll over, but they have received information that it was operating without its headlights prior to the crash.
Deputies also have not determined which man was operating the ATV when it crashed, but believe neither man was wearing a helmet and alcohol may be factor.
Deputies will continue to investigate this crash in the coming days with hopes of identifying additional witnesses and interviewing both men involved.
Deputies were assisted with their initial investigation by a member of the Maine Warden Service. The Edgecomb Fire Department, Wiscasset EMS and Boothbay Region Ambulance also responded and assisted at the scene.
