Edgecomb Selectmen Extend Davis Island Moratorium

The Edgecomb Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to extend a construction moratorium on Davis Island through May 2012.

The original moratorium ended Nov. 17. The new moratorium would end on May 15, 2012.

The vote came on Nov. 21, shortly after the Edgecomb Planning Board voted to recommend changes to the Island’s land use ordinances. The proposed changes would reduce the size of the Gateway District to more closely follow Rt. 1.

A public hearing on the proposed changes will be held Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Edgecomb Town Office. The changes will ultimately go before voters at a town meeting.

Mt. Hunger Road workRoad Commissioner Greg Griffin notified the board that minor construction on Mt. Hunger Road will begin shortly. Griffen will be widening the road’s shoulders and adding rip rap to prevent erosion.

Toy driveIn other business, Selectman Jessica Chubbuck notified the public that the Edgecomb Republican Party is beginning to collect toys for its annual toy drive. All new toys are accepted. The presents will be given to children in need this holiday season.

Toys can be picked up or deposited at a designated drop-off box.
