The Edgecomb Thrift Shop will soon celebrate 10 years of service to the community. In early November 2005, the Thrift Shop began because two women needed something to do. Each had recently retired. The church in Edgecomb had a new kitchen, so the old one was sitting idle. Fixtures were ordered, walls were painted, and donations began to arrive.
The founders had not considered there would be money, but there it was. It was decided that the funds should be donated to area agencies that help children and elders. It is a small shop, open only eight hours a week, but in the years of operation more than $65,000 has been given to the community and to the church. In addition, a weekly lunch is funded by the shop and nearly 10,000 meals have been served.
In order to celebrate this milestone, the Edgecomb Thrift Shop will offer everything in the store at a 50 percent savings for the entire month of November. Lunches will be served every Tuesday at noon, and the community is encouraged to attend. It is offered at no charge, and this is a great social opportunity to meet neighbors and make new friends.
The shop is located in the lower level of the Edgecomb Community Church on Cross Point Road in Edgecomb. Call Louise Hardina at 563-5236 for more information.
