The fifth annual Edgecomb Toy Drive is about to get underway, said Jessica Chubbuck, the program’s coordinator.
The drive assists families that “need a little holiday help,” Chubbuck said.
New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at boxes at the Edgecomb Town Office and post office, which should be in place by “Black Friday,” Nov. 23, Chubbuck said.
The drive will continue into December until its “wrapping party” takes place, but a firm date for that has not been set, Chubbuck said. The entire town will be invited to come to the party, she said.
The wrapping party, once an event where the toys were physically wrapped, is now an event where the toys are sorted for boys and girls, and paired with wrapping paper to be given to the parents, Chubbuck said. It’s easier for the parents if they see what they’re giving to their children, she said.
Many people who need assistance don’t realize there are programs in place to help, Chubbuck said.
The program works with Lincoln County Family Holiday Wishes, the Edgecomb Eddy School, and the town’s general assistance officer to identify and distribute the toys to the appropriate people, Chubbuck said.
“We definitely reach a lot more families each year,” Chubbuck said.
