An Edgecomb woman is in fair condition after a motorcycle accident in which she sustained “life-threatening” injuries, according to the Maine State Police.
Elise Cundy was driving her 2001 Yamaha motorcycle south on I-295 in Falmouth on Thursday, Aug. 4 when she hit grooved pavement and lost control of her motorcycle, according to Trooper Robert Burke.
Cundy hit the guardrail and slid on her back while the motorcycle continued into the woods, Burke said.
Cundy was the only person on the motorcycle. No other vehicles were involved, and driver inexperience is believed to have caused the accident, Burke said.
Cundy had life-threatening injuries, including internal injuries, hip injuries, and back injuries, Burke said. She was transported by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 10, Cundy was in fair condition, according to hospital personnel. An updated status was not available.
Cundy was wearing a helmet during the accident, Burke said.
“She was wearing the appropriate protective gear and a helmet. That’s probably what saved her life,” Burke said.
