LincolnHealth Emergency Department Director Tim Fox, M.D. was recently honored as the first recipient of the John A. Bowers Innovation Award.
The Bowers Innovation Award was created to honor and recognize Lincoln County Healthcare employees, medical staff, and volunteers whose creative leadership and hard work significantly improved the quality, accessibility, and/or affordability of health care in the region.
The award not only honors the life-long contributions of John Bowers, it is also a permanent reminder of what can be achieved through hard work, creativity, and determination.
At its regular meeting Oct. 31, the Lincoln County Healthcare Board of Trustees presented the award to Dr. Fox for creating and developing an iPad-based video communication system that connects ambulances directly with physicians in the LincolnHealth (Miles campus) Emergency Department. The relatively inexpensive system improves EMS communications by allowing emergency physicians to see and communicate with patients while they are being transported by ambulance.
Boothbay Region and Central Lincoln County ambulances now have the system and plans are underway to expand the system to Waldoboro.
