The Waldoboro Fire Department cleaned up a small fuel spill on Route 32 near Cross Road the evening of Friday, June 30.
According to Waldoboro Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer, an engine malfunction in a commercial truck caused the gasoline spill.
Smeltzer said the spill was limited to the contents of the truck’s gas tank, which were spread out in a thin line over the road.
The chief said most of the fuel spilled as the truck was coming to a stop.
Smeltzer said the fire department used pads to clean up the majority of the fuel and deployed booms to prevent the fuel from leaving the road.
He said the booms would be left out overnight and checked in the morning to ensure the area is clean.
Lincoln County Communications dispatched the Waldoboro Fire Department shortly after 8:30 p.m.
Joining the Waldoboro Fire Department at the scene was the Waldoboro Police Department.
