Alan Burgess, a former Boothbay elementary teacher charged with having sexually explicit child pornography on his home computer, made his initial court appearance Tuesday.
Burgess, who taught in the region school system since 1973, declined comment after he appeared before Justice David Kennedy in Lincoln County Superior Court.
Appearing with his lawyer Peter Rodway of Portland, Burgess was permitted to remain free on bond pending indictment by the grand jury. His next scheduled court appearance is set for Feb. 25 at 10 a.m.
School officials say no improper materials were discovered on school computers used by Burgess who resigned following his arrest on Sept. 16.
