A former Great Salt Bay School 4th grade teacher has admitted he had improper contact with a trio of his students and pleaded for help from officials.
Peter J. Simonds, 44, Nobleboro, made the statement March 18, to police and school officials during the initial investigation into allegations made by one student.
“I am extremely sorry. I do not want to hurt anyone. I need help,” he said in a hand written statement.
The written statement was the basis of a search warrant affidavit signed by Damariscotta Police Chief Steven R. Drake. In his affidavit, Drake said he wanted to search Simond’s home for images of other possible victims.
A warrant was issued March 19 by District Court Judge Susan Sparaco in Sagadahoc County. Drake and other law officers searched Simonds’ home and confiscated a series of objects including computers and related items.
Drake said Simonds was arrested on charges of unlawful sexual contact and unlawful touching. He is free on $20,000 bond.
The contact charges are Class B felonies carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. The touching charges are misdemeanors carrying a maximum penalty of one year in prison and $2000 fine.
He is scheduled to appear in court on May 27.
