Law enforcement was alerted to a possible kidnapping in Wiscasset the evening of Thursday, Jan. 8. It turned out to be a family dispute with the call placed by parents upset that their 16-year-old daughter had left the house with her 18-year-old boyfriend, according to law enforcement.
According to Maine State Police Lt. Aaron Hayden, the parents attempted to pull in front of the couple’s car in Wiscasset to prevent them from leaving, causing damage to one of the vehicles.
There was a “running fight” with vehicles up Route 218 between the couple and the 16-year-old’s parents, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Michael Murphy said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office attempted to locate the couple and their parents on Route 218. Deputies and the Maine State Police caught up to the vehicles and pulled both vehicles over at Peaslee’s Quick Stop in Jefferson, Murphy said.
No arrests were made, Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said, because the 16-year-old voluntarily left with her boyfriend.
The Wiscasset Police Department is actively investigating allegations that were made by the individuals involved, Cline said.
