A new Family Dollar discount store is planned for Route 1 in Waldoboro, across from Harold C. Ralph Chevrolet.
The Waldoboro Planning Board gave the project’s application approval at their meeting May 14.
Mackenzie Simpson, a representative for Tampa-based Hunt Real Estate Services, the company behind the project, said the 8320 square-foot store will be a prefabricated metal building that will go up “fairly quickly.”
Simpson told the planning board that it usually takes his company one month to bid out the project, and construction needs to start by July to have the building finished before snowfall.
Some wetlands behind the store will be filled as part of the project, but plans are to minimize the impact and Department of Environmental requirements are being met, Simpson said.
Tucked between Rockland Savings Bank and Maine Modular, the site will include 34 parking spaces and a single entrance off of Route 1. The planning board approved a waiver for the width and radius of the entrance.
According to Simpson, the store will operate from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays. Family Dollar will send one truck of goods to the store each week, typically during off-peak hours, he said.
Hunt Real Estate Services is also behind new Family Dollar stores planned in Farmington, Waterville, and East Millinocket, according to recent news reports.
Family Dollar already has several nearby stores, including Rockland, Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset, Gardiner, and South China.
Hunt Real Estate Services representatives did not return calls for further comment by press time.
