A Farmingdale man is in stable condition after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Route 1 in Wiscasset the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 8.
Scott Getchell, 27, was operating a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on Route 1 around 5:15 p.m., according to Officer Craig Worster, of the Wiscasset Police Department. Lloyd Delano, 76, of Wiscasset, was driving a 2007 GMC pickup truck, entering Route 1 from Page Avenue.
Delano pulled out in front of Getchell, who was not able to stop in time, Worster said. Getchell struck the back corner panel of Delano’s vehicle and was thrown from the motorcycle.
Getchell was not wearing a helmet, and sustained head and chest trauma, Worster said. The Wiscasset Ambulance Service transported Getchell to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was listed in stable condition the day after the accident.
Route 1 was closed to through traffic in the vicinity of the accident as emergency responders worked at the scene. The Wiscasset Fire Department diverted traffic to Old Bath Road. The scene was cleared around 7 p.m., Worster said.
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with accident reconstruction.
The accident remains under investigation, Worster said.
