Lincoln County residents should wake up to snowfall changing over to a wintry mix on Wednesday morning, but skies should clear by nightfall, making way for a sunny Thanksgiving Day, according to forecasters.
Motorists planning on travel to Thanksgiving destinations on Wednesday may want to adjust their plans for the weather, as forecasters warn that intense snowfall of the heavy, wet variety may wreak havoc on area roads through the afternoon hours. Power outages are also a possibility, according to forecasters.
Rainfall is forecast to begin in the early morning hours of Wednesday, then changeover to snowfall in the pre-dawn hours. The possibility of a wintry mix and/or rainfall develops later in the morning as temps begin to rise. Snow may fall at rates approaching 1-3 inches per hour at times, especially during the morning hours, according to forecasters. The weather should begin to move out in the afternoon hours, according to forecasters.
The NWS is calling for snowfall accumulations between 6-12 inches. Local broadcast forecasters are calling for considerably less accumulation, with a coating to 3 inches along the immediate coast and 3-7 inches in most areas of Lincoln County.
Lincoln County also falls into an area where the rain/snow line of the storm is still highly variable in combined forecasts, so the actual weather conditions could still change significantly.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning in regard to the storm, which is in effect until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
