Several area fire departments responded to Sheepscot Harbour Village & Resort in Edgecomb the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 4 as flames tore through the roof of the resort’s recreation building.
Fire departments from Edgecomb, Wiscasset, Newcastle, and Boothbay responded at approximately 1 p.m. to the resort, located at 7 Island Lane.
The recreation building houses an exercise room, pool, and Jacuzzi, according to the resort’s website.
The fire broke out in a mechanical room above the exercise room, and investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are working to determine the fire’s
exact cause, Edgecomb Fire Chief Roy Potter told The Lincoln County News.
Cottages at the Sheepscot Harbour Village & Resort development are individually owned and pay a nominal fee for use of the recreation building, which is
owned by Tony Casella. According to Casella, the room where the fire broke out housed air conditioning equipment and pump equipment.
Casella owns the building, but the building is covered by Hanover Insurance on behalf of the Sheepscot Harbour View Condominium Association, which
represents the development’s individual property owners.
Casella said he, the condo association, and Hanover Insurance will be meeting at 9 a.m. Nov. 5 to assess the damage and develop a plan to move forward.
“The good part is that no one was in the building,” Casella said.
