A gasoline- and propane-fueled fire destroyed a storage shed and chicken coop in Bristol the morning of Dec. 30.
“Everything was destroyed,” Bristol Fire Chief Paul Leeman Jr. said. “There was a generator there, a bunch of tools and, of course, the chicken coop itself. (The owner) said he lost around eight chickens.”
The 195 Pemaquid Harbor Rd. property belongs to Paul and Shari Fredette, who live in a house on the same property.
The fire “was 20 to 25 feet away from the house and there was quite a fuel load,” Leeman said. “There were two propane tanks that did go off and some gasoline and the typical stuff that goes with a work shed.”
The Bristol Fire Department was paged out at 1:19 a.m.
The fire “was fully involved when we got there,” Leeman said. “You could tell the flames had gone probably 20 feet into the air from the marks on the trees.”
The fire was hot enough to crack one of the windows at the house, although there was no other damage to the house, Leeman said. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The Bristol Fire Department cleared the scene at about 3 a.m.
Fire departments from nearby towns were paged out to stand by at their stations “because the fire was so close to the residence,” Leeman said.
