Fire destroyed a Waldoboro family’s rental home over the weekend. Officials say the family was Christmas shopping when the fire started.
No one was home and no one was injured in the fire, but Waldoboro Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer said the home was “fully involved” when firefighters arrived and described the home as “a total loss.”
The fire at 1850 Washington Rd. is believed to have started in the vicinity of a woodstove in the kitchen at a little after 8 p.m. Dec. 10, Smeltzer said. Fire crews from Waldoboro, Union, Warren and Friendship responded to the scene, which they cleared around 11:30 p.m.
The fire is not considered suspicious, Smeltzer said.
The occupants were renting the house and could not be reached for comment. The house belongs to Howard Brower of Lincoln, Mass. Brower declined to comment.
