A fire in a Waldoboro sawmill, reported shortly before 2 a.m. Sept. 16, is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
According to Sgt. Ken Grimes of the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the property is located in the vicinity of 1866 Old Augusta Road.
“There was no building number on it,” Grimes said. He said the property belongs to the Miller Family Trust of Waldoboro.
Waldoboro Fire Chief Bill Maxwell said 15 Waldoboro firefighters, three Waldoboro fire apparatuses and a Warren tank truck were at the scene until approximately 6 a.m.
Grimes said there was a non-operating sawmill at the site.
An occupied house trailer is also on the property.
Maxwell said Deputy Chief Dale Smith was first on the scene.
“There was nothing worth saving when he got there,” Maxwell said. “It had been burning a while before it got called in and we don’t know who called it in.”
Maxwell said the fire had spread a short way into the woods.
“That was our major concern,” he said. “That was quickly extinguished.” No one was injured as a result of the fire.
