A Jan. 4 fire in Walpole at a Sproul Road home resulted in minimal damage due to a timely call from the residents and a fast response from local fire departments.
The fire was likely the cause of an “improperly installed woodstove,” South Bristol Fire Chief Robert “Mitch” Mitchell said.
“It was very vigilant on the homeowner’s part,” Mitchell said. “It was a really good save.”
The residence is old, Mitchell said, and “if it had got going, I don’t know if we’d ever have got it out.”
The Bristol Fire Dept. assisted the South Bristol Fire Dept. at the scene. The Bremen Fire Dept. and the Damariscotta Fire Dept. were on standby, Mitchell said.
