A Florida woman is in fair condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a head-on collision in Bristol the morning of Thursday, June 26.
Audrey J. Chase, 84, of Jupiter, Florida, was first transported by ambulance to the Miles campus of LincolnHealth in Damariscotta. She was treated at Miles and transported to Maine Medical Center, a LincolnHealth spokesman said.
As of 11 a.m. Friday, she remains at the Portland hospital in fair condition, a Maine Medical Center spokeswoman said.
The collision on Bristol Road totaled two vehicles and closed the road for about an hour.
Chase was driving a Cadillac sedan north on Bristol Road, near Walpole Meeting House Road, at 10:47 a.m., Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office
Sgt. Jason Nein said.
Dennis R. Sawyer, 77, of Warren, was driving a 1989 Dodge pickup truck south, toward New Harbor.
Chase drifted onto the northbound shoulder, then overcorrected, entered the southbound lane, and collided with Sawyer head-on, Nein said. The truck rolled over and came to
rest on its roof after the collision.
Chase sustained unspecified injuries and was transported to the hospital, according to Nein. Sawyer was not hurt. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and the Cadillac’s airbags deployed.
Neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash, Nein said.
The Bristol and Damariscotta fire departments, the Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Lincoln County
Sheriff’s Deputy Ken Hatch was the primary investigating officer.
Authorities cleared the scene at 12:05 p.m.
